When we first started giving bloggers rules for writing it was very informal. We basically told authors to use thier own discretion about what was appropriate since they know the audience and artists better than we do.
Eventually some posts made us reconsider this relatively lax "policy" and lead several members of Walker staff to sit down and discuss what sort of official policy would actually provide guidence to the authors and not be restrictive. From the outset you might think a standardized set of rules is contrary to fostering an informality and honesty generally associated with blogging medium, and you would probably be right. We did put out an official list of guidelines but if you read through them for the essence it is generally "use your discrestion" and a few specific examples thrown in for good measure.
What has happened that is probably more important since the discussion of guidlines and rules is that more people inside the Walker started reading the blogs. That means if something potentially offensive goes out someone here will catch it before it gets reported back to us by the public.
