Review: http://weblogs.about.com/cs/bloghost/gr/blogger.htm

Pros:

  • Free!
  • Easy - setup in no time, decent interface, nice features.
  • Multiple templates

Cons:

  • No categories! (this is, IMHO, a huge shortcoming)
  • Template customizing requires fiddling with HTML and CSS
  • Some downtime
  • Slow publish times
  • Really needs some (free) third-party utils for complete functionality (e.g. feedburner)

Owned now by google, blogger.com was my first introduction to blogging - free and easy, I started my first blog in October 2001. All politics all the time. :)

As far as quick and easy goes, blogger wins. It's a very complete multi-author bloggin platform with excellent integrated features.

For actual use, you'll want to check out:

  • statcounter.com
    • free (limited log) hit and stat tracking package
  • feedburner.com
    • create an RSS feed and track subscribers
  • http://help.blogger.com/bin/topic.py?topic=41
    • Blogger hacks. Good stuff.
