Session we attended, notes from the presenters

  • lots of talk about focus groups of teens and cell phones
  • cells very popular among teens
  • Good ideas teens brought up
    • Tech increases, they can see more imersive stuff on phones in future
    • like the independance of doing a tour on thier own, not in a group
    • Having photos, web, etc as phones get better gives more immersive experience to patrons, beyond just audio.
  • Hard to figure out correct kind of content to put on the phone. Still researching.

Peter Samis starts off w/ Chuck Close Big Self Portrait and someone w/ an iPod next to it. ;)

  • 42 million iPods sold to date.
  • Pitfalls of podcasts
    • Playlist behaviour, no pause betwen tracks
    • hitting back button you can easlily lose your space
    • syncing very difficult!! (Mac/Win issues, etc).
    • Imaging Clumbsy, small thumbnail
    • Has a contact at Apple, they raised these issues. But have yet to be addressed
  • Notes feature "Museum Mode"
    • Hyperlinks from notes field to audio. (?)
    • Museum staffed, similar to our bought ipods for patrons
    • RSS user downloads, like AOC page
  • Production
    • Do your self, have less quality, production value, or have someone help?
    • They went outside, Antenna Audio
    • 15-20 mins, of 4-5 NPR style features
    • Exhibition hilights, voices from collection, User submitted podcast, Artist talks, though more overview than just one piece
    • Cost of production is ~$3000 per podcast
    • Seems fairly time consuming
  • SFMOMA Artcast
    • Beyond audio tour, more audio zine.
    • From museum out to community
    • Can use outside museum
    • $2 off admission if you bring in Ipod
  • Marketing
    • Using blogs for viral marketing
    • Using Delicious for links
    • Walker Art Center blogs name dropping. ;)
    • Out to Yahoo podcasts
    • Then to international community, Times Online (London)
    • Stats when WAY up after posting things to blogs
    • Admissions up since $2 discount as well

  • Botany Blog had someone outside make an OS X widget for Photo of the Day.
  • Blog carnivle (?) - Sounds like a blog that takes the best post from a certain topic?
  • Discussion forums. Looks mostly like photos
    • Says forums community interacts with blog community
  • Flickr pool, for photos that may not make photo of the day
  • Botany delicious links
